"... Medieval Feast - MORE THAN A PLAY!

Image
Two nights SOLD OUT!   The Play this fall, 2013: A MEDIEVAL FEAST ("Knights of the Square Table")  Friday, November 29 - 110 in audience and Saturday, November 30 - 109 in audience FIVE courses consisting of * loaves of bread * salad * vegetables * small chicken * dessert Rules for medieval feast had to do with behavior before, during, and after the meal: 1) NO Cutlery 2) NO pinching the wenches 3) NO pinching monks serving the courses during play. There were about ten rules and penalties were fierce!  Part of the fun! There was some singing - troubadours did a slam dunk job of entertaining the audience during course changing.       Days later, it's STILL being talked about!   "You continue to astonish us!" one theatre goer exclaimed.   GARRY KERR, of the QU'APPELLE PLAYERS, was online as receiving highest award in SASKATCHEWAN THEATRE April 6, 2013 this spring.          More informatio

Ken's Birthday and Marilyn's Birthday Happen in November.    Honouring their birthdays this year

Oooh boy! Are we in trouble?

Image
The next came from a friend off the internet: "The English language has some wonderfully anthropomorphic collective nouns for the various groups of animals. We are all familiar with a Herd of cows, Flock of chickens, School of fish,  Gaggle of geese, and       A Pride of lions. However, less widely known is: A Murder of crows (as well as their cousins the rooks and ravens), An Exaltation of doves And, presumably because they look so wise: A Congress of owls. Now consider a group of Baboons. They are the loudest, most dangerous, most obnoxious, most viciously aggressive and least intelligent of all primates......... And what is the proper collective noun for a group of baboons? Believe it or not … A Parliament"

A Story About the Middle Finger

The story as told by my friend Mary - My nephew, Jim asked his dad, " Dad,  what does it mean when someone puts up their middle finger?" Wilfred said, "Well, son, let me explain what each finger means." He held up his thumb and said, " When you put your thumb up you are trying to hitch a ride." "What about the next finger, dad?" said Jim. "Well son, the next finger is your pointing finger, " said his dad, " When you point at something that is the finger you use." "The next finger.... oh, we will skip it for now but the next finger is when you get married that is your RING finger, " said the dad. "The little finger is your 'pinky' and it sticks out at a tea party when you drink your tea! " "That middle finger is the one after you've been married a few years, you raise it up, hit yourself on the forehead and say,'What the frick have I done? Then you have to hope you can

A Walk Between Two Friends

Shared from a friend of mine, Sharon, is the " Story of the Friends' Walk :" "Two friends were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey, they had an argument and one friend slapped the other one in the face. The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand;  "Today my best friend slapped me in the face." They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got s tuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend saved him. After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone:  "Today my best friend saved my life." The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him, "After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now, you write on a stone, why?" The friend replied, "When someone hurts us we should write it down in sand, where winds of forgiveness can erase it away but when someone does so

Teaching English Story - Grade 3 boy helps teach vowels!

Image
LONG vowels say their own name: A  as in  t a pe;  E  as in f e et; I  as in  like ;  O as in g o at; U as in c u be SHORT vowels say the short sound in words below: a as in t a p; e as in p e t;  i as in i t, m i tt; o as in d o c; u as in c u b This next story will help you remember VOWELS in the alphabet. Once upon a time a mom had borrowed sugar from her neighbour. She asked her little boy to return it the next day. The little boy took the cup of sugar to the neighbour saying, " A E, I O U (and sometimes Y is a vowel)  some sugar!" So the vowels are "A E, I O U (and sometimes y)." this is a story as told to our class when Noel was about grade 3 or 4. I never forgot your wonderful little helpful hints about how to remember the vowels in the alphabet.   (Noel is a grown-up man with a family of his own now)  by Prairie Gal

WAR BRIDES and more by Artist Beverly Tosh

Image
I have checked with artist, Bev Tosh, via her son, Scott. He's given permission to look at her War Bride paintings on my blog as a posting.  They came to marry the soldiers they had fallen in love with during the Second World War. Would they, could they love the men living on the prairies back on farms after the war was over? The man was home, the war over, but the women who'd married their loves were now far from the homes where they'd grown up. It was very different and daunting for them.  Canadian Artist, Bev Tosh, looks at them with a critical but loving eye - her mother was among the many War Brides coming to the soldiers with whom they'd fallen in love. My idea is to look over Bev Tosh's research of  War Brides as another Remembrance Day comes to the forefront and instill romanticism into the coldness of the month of November. One song comes to mind: "Glad You Came," by The Wanted , Sung by  a sweet lass: Please read the credits after

50 Shades of Grey by E.L. James

Image
The book, Fifty Shades of Grey ,  published in 2011 written by British Author E.L. James is a daring examination of "erotic romanticism!" Excitement mounts in our lonely lives where each of us are essentially all alone whether in a crowded city or on a very small acreage or farm. Someone shouted knowingly, "We are all alone!" when another cried, "I am all alone!"  Cutting like a knife was truth.     Hey! How about "50 SHADES OF HAY" especially since this BLOG is "One Foot in the Furrow"? HERE IT IS, "50 SHADES OF HAY"!   HOT, HOT, HOT!

We'll hear more about poor Golly later," said Prairie Gal.

Oop! Trouble in Hospital Bed

Image
An extremely modest man was in the hospital for a series of tests, the last of which had left his bodily systems extremely upset. Upon making several false alarm trips to the bathroom, he decided the latest episode was another and stayed put. He suddenly filled his bed with diarrhea and was embarrassed beyond his ability to remain rational. In a complete loss of composure he jumped out of bed, gathered up the bed sheets, and threw them out the hospital window. A drunk was walking by the hospital when the sheets landed on him. He started yelling, cursing, and swinging his arms violently trying to get the unknown things off, and ended up with the soiled sheets in a tangled pile at his feet. As the drunk stood there, unsteady on his feet, staring down at the sheets, a hospital security guard, (barely containing his laughter), and who had watched the whole incident, walked up and asked, 'What the heck is going on here?' The drunk, still staring down replied: &

Starting school is not easy whether elementary school, post secondary or universary. Below are students in first class towards degree in psychology to help others.  Can you relate? :   Psychiatric Students The aspiring psychiatrists were attending their first class on emotional extremes. "Just to establish some parameters," said the professor to the student from Saskatchewan, Canada, "What is the opposite of joy?" "Sadness," said the student.   "And the opposite of depression?" he asked the young lady from Vancouver, B.C., Canada. "Elation," said she. "And you sir," he said to the young man from Alberta, Canada, "how about the opposite of woe?" The Albertan replied, "Sir, I believe that would be giddy-up." All changed to CANADA instead of USA! EITHER WORKS! LOL Song from YOU TUBE, "BOREDOM AND JOY" If I need permission
