Once upon a time a mom had borrowed sugar from her neighbour. She asked her little boy to return it the next day. The little boy took the cup of sugar to the neighbour saying, " A E, I O U (and sometimes Y is a vowel)  some sugar!" So the vowels are "A E, I O U (and sometimes y)." this is a story as told to our class when Noel was about grade 3 or 4. I never forgot your wonderful little helpful hints about how to remember the vowels in the alphabet.   (Noel is a grown-up man with a family of his own now)  by Prairie Gal
